Electrical knowledge that would be nice to have as a new guy?

Basically I’m starting my foray into this field in BC, Canada next Tuesday. I was wondering what basic’ish electrical knowledge I can brush up on that would be most helpful to my coworkers. I have a bit of electrical troubleshooting from my previous job I left to start this job but nothing super substantial. I also am not super new in trades as I’m 33 and have done plumbing and sign installation in the past, so I know there is a line of knowing enough versus just learning from who you are working with.

Any help is muchly appreciated, and if there’s none to give and just need to learn what I’ll need to from the folks I’m working with, so be it!

Which one of you did this?

Which one of you did this?

I had to say a prayer thanking all that is holy. Somehow this condenser fan didnt run after the zip tie broke, capacitor went out first I guess. Person before me left one little plastic zip tie to keep it mounted. I found it broken in half in the grate.

If that thing started going it would’ve ripped up everything in its path. Took all that shit out waiting on new fan assembly.

Industrial Service Slips / Software recommendations

Industrial Service Slips / Software recommendations

As the title says I'm looking for recommendations for digital service slips or software that fits the industrial field. I've looked at the demo for service titan HVAC and it seems nice but those of you in industrial understand that there's no way that was designed for us. We currently use quickbooks workforce for scheduling and timesheets clock in / clock outs which is nice cause everything links up beautiful for Invoices and payroll but there isn't a "service slip" type feature that I've been able to find.

TYIA for any input, suggestions, recommendations.

Hoshizaki Sushi Case Compressor Horsepower?

An associate of mine is working with a Hoshizaki sushi case, and needs help finding the horsepower of the unit's compressor, which is unfortunately not listed on the compressor itself. We've both Googled the part number of the compressor, the model number of the sushi case, and various other searches, but haven't been able to locate the exact horsepower of the component. Here are the compressor specs we have:

  • Model Number: Ce56Y-1Zu
  • Part Number: 460658-01
  • Power Specs: 115 Volts, 60 Hertz, 1-Phase Supply
  • Coolant Type: R134a

Alternatively, would we be able to calculate the horsepower somehow with the information we currently have? I'm not the most experienced with this sort of thing myself, but we need to find this info as soon as possible to work on getting it back up and running.

Thanks in advance!

Data for a graph of cost over temperature Kelvin

Hi, I'm a second year engineering student working on a project around cooling an MRI machine.

As we look through different cooling cycles and super conductors we thought it would be super useful to have an oversimplified graph to indicate the cost to maintain a temperature ($/m^3?) over temperature Kelvin.

This will ofcourse be a massive oversimplification skipping over hundreds of factors in design, materials and cycles, but we think a rough indication in graph form could be extremely useful.

We would probably like to make the graph range from ~0.1K to 273.15K

We are struggling to find much data (partly because it's difficult to make such generalisations) but we also don't really know where to begin.

Can you guys help, or could you maybe redirect me to a community that could?

Cruise ship refrigeration

Hi, I am a UK qualified refrigeration engineer of 6years, I got into this trade to mainly work on cruise ship environments, I wanted to get trained up first and have enough experience under my belt before undergoing working on one. I was hoping someone here who works as a refrigeration engineer on a cruise ship could give me advice on how to get started and where to search. I have already looked at “all cruise jobs”
